The fuse and the circuit breaker are both devices whose role is to interrupt the current in case of overcurrent to protect the building and the appliances. However, they work differently and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Let's take a look at them.
The fuse is usually a ceramic or glass case containing a metal filament. This device melts under the effect of the too high temperature in case of overcurrent, thus interrupting the current flow to protect your equipment. Discover its advantages and disadvantages.

In the end, the difference between the fuse and the circuit breaker lies in their operating principle.
The fuse is based on the principle of the Joule effect and melts directly in case of overcurrent. Because of its fast current flow, you will find it most often in electronic devices.
The circuit breaker, on the other hand, is based on electromechanical principles and automatically shuts off power in the event of an overcurrent condition. It is then simply reactivated by turning the switch back on to restore power, making this device a more attractive option for construction applications.
