CRITERIA

What are the criteria for choosing your generator?

Selecting the right generator involves four key criteria: the appropriate power for your home, the available fuel, the transfer switch type, and monitoring. Our team will guide you through each of these choices to find the solution that best fits your needs.

Power tailored for your home

Power is measured in kilowatts (kW) depending on your appliances and square footage. For essential circuits only, less than 10 kW may be sufficient. For a full power supply, expect 15 to 22 kW for residential use.

Fuel choice

If your neighborhood is served by Énergir, natural gas is a stable and continuous solution. Propane takes over in areas without a gas network, with the installation of a dedicated tank.

Power Transfer Type

The automatic transfer switch starts the generator and automatically switches power within 30 seconds. Our ATS ensures continuity, before automatically returning to the Hydro-Québec grid once service is restored.

Remote Control Options

The Mobile Link app turns your cell phone into a monitoring station. Alerts report outages and maintenance in real time, and tracking works wherever your cell phone gets a signal.

FAQs

FAQ about Generators

How long does a generator installation take?

The complete installation of a residential generator typically takes 1 to 2 days. Our team comes to your home, sets up the auxiliary panel, and demonstrates the Mobile Link app before leaving, anywhere in Quebec.

Does my generator require regular maintenance?

Yes. Annual maintenance is recommended, including oil changes, air filter replacement, spark plugs, and operational tests. Our team offers preventive maintenance packages to ensure the reliability of your generator and maintain your warranty.

What is the difference between automatic and manual transfer?

Automatic transfer starts the generator and switches the power instantly during an outage. Manual transfer requires your physical intervention at the panel to switch the source. ERCO only installs automatic systems with ATS, requiring no action on your part.

What warranty does ERCO offer on Generac generators?

ERCO includes a complimentary 10-year Generac extended warranty (a $2,000 value) instead of 5 years, covering parts and labor. This is in addition to our ERCO installation warranty, which covers the quality of the connection and commissioning.

What brand of generator does ERCO install?

Our team installs Generac as an official partner, a brand recognized for its reliability and the peace of mind it offers. The residential range includes several models from 10 to 28 kW, compatible with natural gas or propane, featuring automatic start and the Mobile Link app for remote monitoring.

What size generator do I need for my home?

It all depends on your power needs. For essential circuits only, less than 10 kW may be sufficient. For full residential power, you can generally expect between 15 and 22 kW. Our team calculates the exact load (in watts then kW) during the quote visit, whether in-home or remote.
